About Ashleigh

Ashleigh Bennett is a Registered Social Worker through the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Ashleigh has received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Development Studies, her Bachelor of Social Work, and her Masters of Social Work through the University of Waterloo and the University of Windsor.

During her masters program Ashleigh completed a placement at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, leading CBT based psycho-educational programs for those struggling with various mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety. She also completed part of her placement within the inpatient mental health department at RVH. Ashleigh has 3.5 years of experience in child protection providing support to families, individuals and couples experiencing ongoing verbal and physical conflict, challenges in parenting and mental health, substance misuse issues and other life challenges.

Ashleigh approaches her work through a client- centered approach and is driven to provide concrete tools to improve interpersonal relationships, and to work toward general life satisfaction and success. Ashleigh never underestimates the power of humour and believes that self-driven goal setting in a non-judgmental environment is key to creating change. She strives to walk alongside her clients and act as a guide in the journey to successful life outcomes. Ashleigh uses EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based approach that helps clients process and heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences. While often used for trauma, EMDR can also support concerns like anxiety, low self-worth, and feeling “stuck,” by helping the brain reprocess difficult memories so they feel less intense and more like something in the past rather than something still happening now. Ashleigh is trained in the Gottman method of couples counseling and believes in tailoring her counseling approach to the individual couple. Ashleigh works with clients ages 12+ and specializes in challenges including parenting, familial conflict, intimate partner relationships, depression, anxiety, stress management and more.
